Forum: GratefulDead Subject: A beautiful version of Brokedown Palace?

Can you guys point me to a beautiful and slow version of Brokedown Palace? I'm looking for either an SBD or AUD, a slower version, obviously one that is well mixed with even instruments and singing. I've only got about 46 on my computer and there are a few candidates but I'm looking for a really special, good version.

This is for a Grateful Dead "Just for Kids" CD for my kids, nephews/nieces and friends kids. I want to find one more slow, solemn song...and I'm considering Brokedown Palace and It's All Over Now, Baby Blue. I might add both!

Thanks very much

My favorite these days is from Keil Auditorium in St. Louis, 1973. Stunning.

Here's the laudible Charlie Miller upgrade. Be prepared to shed a tear of joy.

what's up cliff...?

it is not like i am "all into this" re:fakers, but i just don't buy these people. i mean they are possible. but after reading the forum everyday (or so) for going on almost 2 years.... i don't know, i smell a rat. and really, i think it is just a GOOF either way.

like i don't care if there are rats around... it is just puzzling. sometimes you can tell someone is not a native english speaker, or someone really just stumbled in and is for real when they say "HEY, WHAT'S a JERRY?" but it is just so obvious when there is some kind of weird retard behind the name, and there is an agenda other than -- just a a curious person....

a couple weeks ago some one-timer posted about "writing a paper on the dead" and i really shit my pants - i started writing a really sarcastic reply but then the people started replying like it was a "real kid writing a paper...." i mean maybe it was -- it just seemed too fucking retarded to be real. but WTF do i know? why on earth would i ever think someone is not what they represent themselves to be -- that never happens {}:>

later man....... you gonna get some snow on the island this winter or what? i miss it back there this time of year.... cheers.

you're trying to hard -- i was hoping not to communicate with you directly ever again -- but since you insist on being thorough -- please pretend i don;t exist. i will respond in kind....

please, proceed with leading your life. i do not seek to further disrupt the evolution of your identity. in case the message is not clear: i am not interested in your communications. i was talking to cliff in a "general" manner about the many people who float by -- some of them are eerily similar, and all sorts of weird stuff happens, your Handle is just the most recent identity to come floating by.....

"You mean Cliff, your mud love buddy?"

um...uhhhh, yea, that's what i meant. exactly. maybe cliff would care to comment, on.... "mud love"? god... that sounds so, well.... loose. mud love, that sounds loose!

but, i heard he is not a young guy.... and i heard you are not a young guy too. how's the family in the "world of The Dead and it's fans are all about" btw?

hey look ppecker, and i mean this, take this little vid as a sort of Olive Branch ok? like i am just gonna believe that you are "old enough and quite knowledgeable about the band" whatever that means and your perfectly on the up. my brain may indeed be on fire with hate and misery, and i know for sure you "don't understand my kind and you don't really care about my views" (oh thanks babe i didn't know i had any).... but, what can i say, i can do the devil's bidding from 9 to 5, but at night, i just can't get enough muppets.... CHECK IT OLD BOY! -- ITs BARBECUE!

I think you are wasting your time with the olive branch. The dude now has a chip on his shoulder. I tried last night, but he was afraid to engage because he really has absolutely nothing to say. I genuinely wanted to hear what Dark Star's he liked, but I dont think he he's capable of finding a nice one on his own, or articulating why he liked it.

It turns out that 1977-05-18 is a great version too, not acoustic but lovely.

One of the most agonizing, plaintive Brokedowns ever.

IMO.

Try 6-23-1988 from Alpine Valley. It comes out of a truly sloppy, but heart-felt Blackbird. The solo Jerry plays still sends chills down my spine when I hear it.
I was actually on my honeymoon that tour having gotten married a week or so before tour started and that was one of the times I really began to feel more at home at a show than anywhere else.

Agree with those above. Another to consider is the one from 8-6-71, available here as the amazing AUD, and also on the RoadTrips, summer of 71, as a SBD.

This is a beautiful Brokedown, and a beautiful show in general (another example of why good Auds always > sbds) . Just hit play whenever you find yourself sitting around with a couple hours to spare...drift away into the sun.
